Today I learned the word 'Comissaria.'
So yes. The rest of my first full day here got eaten by the Bag-Snatching Fiends.
But I'm past the whining and the anger now (apologies to Kepp, who it mostly got landed on) and am now just considering how odd the effect that it had on me is. (Oh look...I'm having Thoughts about me again. This blog is getting a little predictable...)
But my first reaction - the first thing I felt upon noticing that the space next to me where there should have been a pretty Radley bag was now completely vacant - wasn't anger, or horror, or even surprise - it was disbelief. The first thing I did was to immediately stand up so that I could see the whole area where I had been sitting - not because I thought I might have put it behind me, but somehow to impress on my brain by seeing the whole empty space that it really had gone.
Isn't that weird? As far as I can judge what I felt, it was based on the fact that in my world view, those items belonged to me. They could not have gone anywhere else because they were mine. The idea of someone else sitting, right now, with my bag and my purse that my friend bought me, is a very weird one. Why should it be so hard to grasp? No wonder I find it difficult to get my head around other people's marriages and lightspeed...
The other thing is how much it shook me. I was just so incredibly angry at myself that it was hard to do anything. I was in a hurry to get back to the hostel to phone and cancel my credit cards but had no money to get the metro with so had to walk - and that just made me even angrier. And when I am angry at myself I cry. By the time I got back to the hostel I had problems calming down enough to explain what had happened over the phone to my bank. An hour of sitting in a police waiting room and considering how much worse it could have been mostly got it out of my system, thankfully.
But how on earth will I deal with it if anything seriously bad ever happens to me? This was just mildly inconvenient.
In other holiday news...there isn't much. Except that kiwi juice is indeed utterly gorgeous stuff. I will be having more tomorrow.

I too love kiwi juice. Kiwis are wonderful fruits... a little like strawberry in taste and yet... different.
Oh, the bag thing is bad but let's concentrate on the juice... sweet and refreshing. Mmmm.
Is it fresh with chunks of kiwi still in it? The type I've had was... more pulped fruit than a juice. I almost needed a spoon to finish it.

I'm with Kep on ignoring the nasty bag-snatchers and concentrating on the juice... mmmm. Kiwi juice is gorgeous. It's also delicious juiced along with a few oranges. Heavenly.
But yes, commiserations once again on the bag fiasco. That really does suck hugely.
Kiwi juice, though... Luscious.
Hah. I am so glad I have friends who also have their priorities in the right order.
No, 'twas not excessively pulpy and yes, I do know how good it is mixed with orange juice...about a month ago I had that in the early morning at the airport in Berlin. Mmm.
Why aren't there stalls selling fresh fruit juice everywhere? I mean smoothies are good too but freshly-squeezed anything...ah.
Anything fruit, that is.
Exactly how is kiwi like strawberry, though?
They both can cause severe allergic reactions?
But yeah, those guys certainly have their priorities right. Denial works wonders, and antihistamines help with the choking.
Kiwis and strawberries just taste very similar. To me anyway.
I've always been disturbed by people spooning out kiwi from the skin. Not sure why, it just seems... pervy.
But strawberries... put that in a smoothie and it's better than perfect. Yum.
I've always eaten them by scooping the insides out the the spoon. I'm not going to eat them with the revolting furry skin on, am I? How is it pervy? You're weird. :p
Exactly how is kiwi like strawberry, though?
They're both in the picture on the cornflakes packet.
Oh, there should so be stalls selling freshly juiced goodness everywhere!! I know there are juice bars, but they seem to be like gold dust, and only exist in cities if that. Ah, skit, perhaps we should start our own business venture... Skitsky Juices.
I've heard people say kiwis and strawbs are similar, but I've never personally noticed. Strawberries lack the necessary tang of a kiwi... can't really compare them. And yeah - how the heck are you supposed to eat them without scooping the flesh from the skin? You're weird, j. :P
Rian also spoons kiwi from the skin.
There used to be a kiwi tree in the backyard of the beach house. Oh, num! Childhood scooping memories.
It's like you're slowly undressing the fruit. *embarrassed* It's just kiwi's I have this problem with.
You are bizarre. Suerly peeling it would be undressing it? Spooning it out is...well, eviscerating it. Not embarrassing at all. Just think of it as stabbing it in he guts with a spoon (and get a nice Sherriff of Nottingham moment to cheer you up too).
